Indy 500 & F1 Champion Villeneuve Returns to Rallycross with ARX

Former FIA World Rallycross Championship permanent driver and Formula 1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve will make his return to the sport at Trois-Rivieres in Canada for the third round of Americas Rallycross next week.

Villeneuve has signed to race a Subaru WRX STI for Subaru Rally Team USA in his home round of ARX. The Canadian driver made his rallycross debut at Montalegre in Portugal in 2014 and also raced at his home track in the same year.

He will partner Subaru’s permanent drivers Chris Atkinson and Patrik Sandell in a trio of Subaru WRX STIs in the ARX round and will compete against star American names like Scott Speed, Tanner Foust and Ken Block. “Trois-Rivieres has always felt like my motorsports home, so it's once again a pleasure to be back. Rallycross has grown exponentially since I've last raced these amazing cars, so it's good to be part of a sport on the rise. I am grateful for the opportunity to be racing a works' Subaru and will do everything in my power to help the team in its Americas Rallycross endeavour,” Villeneuve said.

In his last appearance at GP3R, Villeneuve won a qualifying race but didn’t make the semi-finals due to a mechanical problem. He will use his experience of the Canadian circuit, where both he and his father Gilles have a rich history, to help the Subaru team next week. “Jacques Villeneuve is a global motorsport icon, and Subaru is excited to welcome him to Americas Rallycross behind the wheel of a WRX STI,” said William Stokes, Motorsports Manager for Subaru of America. “With his local background and tremendous success in American racing, Jacques will be a thrill for both Canadian and U.S. fans.”

The joint ARX and World RX event on August 4-5 will begin with a downtown show on Friday evening in Trois-Rivieres. “Jacques is part of the GP3R family. We're always happy to have him back. It's a treat for our local fans to once again have a native son to cheer on in rallycross,” said GP3R general manager, Dominic Fugere.

Americas Rallycross will join the World Rallycross field in Austin, Texas on 29-30 September. Tickets available at: WorldRXUSA.com
